Many of our kids are ready for driver’s education this summer. Here are some options that can also benefit our NHS Class of 2011. Let the registrar of the driving school know that your child is a Newport High School Student.

Class of 2011 Liaison
Hey Freshman Parents!
I have taken on the role of PTSA Liaison for the Class of 2011. I will be sending periodic emails offering info about events & activities at Newport:
· Class-specific information
· Late breaking info that didn’t make it into the newsletter
· Helpful news of particular interest to Freshman parents
I am a parent from Tyee and my daughter is Katie. I have been cross-checking Audrey’s list with my list from Tyee’s 8th grade class and I know that we are missing some names. So if you know of someone that has not been receiving information from Audrey from Tillicum, Tyee or other schools, please pass this email on to them and have these parents get in touch with me so that I can add them to the database. Bear with me as I jump into this and my apologies if this is duplicate information for some of you!

P.S. this message is sent to every email address from Audrey Bennett’s file. Addresses are in the BCC line to protect your privacy. Requests for removal are cheerfully honored-no explanation needed. Please send me updated addresses as needed.

Fame (NHS Play), Sports Paperwork, Swap Meet, and more!
---------------------------------------
Stuff I Forgot
Couple of comments I forgot to make that are worth mentioning…..
· When I talked about our dances – Homecoming (the theme dance) and Tolo (the formal) – I forgot to mention something important. Many families in our community do not allow their children to date until they reach the age of 16. If you have this rule, you will not be alone, though your kids might tell you that you are.
· Many of the activities that go on at Newport are planned and sponsored by student—run organizations. You will find yourself wondering whether these kids have any supervision at all because, well, they make some dumb mistakes. The truth is that the kids typically have very hard working, helpful advisors, but despite their best efforts, the inexperience and naiveté of the students just shines right through. So if something seems poorly run or executed, well, you’re right….but some kids got a great learning experience.
---------------------------------------
Fame!
Fame: Come see the talented cast of Fame. This Thursday through Saturday there will be three exciting performances. Fame will be performed at Sammamish High School at 7:30 sharp. Tickets will be sold during lunch and at the door. Tickets are $6.00 for students with ASB. and $8.00 for adults.
---------------------------------------
Sports Paperwork Packets
These aren’t quite available yet…..Gill says give him another week.
---------------------------------------
Swap Meet
Don’t forget! The swap meet is coming up on June 16th. Admission is free and it is open to the public. Come early for the best selection and the first 100 in the door get a raffle ticket. You know what they say, “Whoever said ‘Money can’t buy happiness’ just didn’t know where to shop!”

Understanding the Mysteries of your Teen's Brain
If your student attends a school within the Newport feeder pattern, you’ll probably receive this invitation from your current PTA, but there are a few folks on the list from private schools who might not otherwise receive it. This is for all parents of teens in the Bellevue School District, so feel free to pass it around!
Audrey
PS – This email is being sent to parents who have a current 8th grade student headed for Newport. Requests for removal cheerfully honored. All names are in the BCC line to preserve your privacy.
The Eastside Community Network, Bellevue School District Safe and Drug Free Schools Committee and the Bellevue PTSA Council present…
An Evening on Understanding the Mysteries of your Teenager’s Brain - 5/1, 7-9pm
Interlake High theater
Victoria Tennent, M.Ed., and the author of Healthy Beginnings – Nurturing Children’s Growing Minds, and Calming Ourselves in Stressful Moments, will share information, resources and strategies, and help parents to:
· Gain insight into the mysteries of teen behaviors by exploring research on the development and workings of the adolescent brain
· Apply information in practical ways to deal with challenges inherent in these developing years, such as: impulsive behavior, moodiness, miscommunication, quickness to anger, dangerous risk taking (including alcohol and other drugs) and depression
· Learn positive ways to communicate with and stay connected to teens
Jon Osterberg, PEMCO Speakers Bureau will speak on:
· Why teenagers will always drive the way they’ve always driven
· What the typical accident for a teenager looks like
· What parents can do beat the odds
