Orchestra Concert tonight!
The NHS Orchestras are presenting their final concert of the year this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the PAC. Come hear these award-winning groups play a variety of music, from Beethoven’s Fifth to jazz! Original compositions by Rio Bacon and Jason Wang will be featured, plus a song with “surround sound”. Check it out!

Powder Puff Football is on Thursday at 6 PM! Come out and enjoy the beautiful weather and watch some great flag football! Tickets will be on sale during both lunches on Thursday and at the door. $5 w/ASB, $6 w/o ASB

Fall Sports Paperwork
Fall Sports paperwork is available now outside the ASB secretary's office. Just a reminder that physicals are good for 2 years. So most of us will need to schedule physicals for our JUNIORS for sports next school year. Turn in dates as follows:

Upcoming community service opportunities for those in need of some hours: See Ms. Owen in the counseling center for more information.
-Tyee Middle School is looking for volunteers to help set-up & decorate for the 8th grade party. See Ms. Jones in the ASB office
-Tillicum middle school is looking for volunteers for the 8th grade party office on June 20th
-Become part of Seattle’s largest running event and Sea Fair by volunteering at the Rock N Roll Marathon. They need volunteers to pass out water, medals, t-shirts, and food to runners. June 25th – June 27th.
-Bellevue School District is looking for students to volunteer during the summer school program. You can start volunteering the first day of summer school on July 6th.
-University of Washington Medical Center is starting recruitment of the Summer Teen Volunteer Program. Students interested in the program must call their office as soon as possible and sign up.
-Bellevue Parks & Community Services Wants YOU!! Anyone 16 or older can volunteer July 4th from 4:15 to 9:30 at the Bellevue Downtown Park assisting park staff with customer service to the public.
-The Eastside Heritage Center needs volunteers for the 2009 Strawberry Festival. Volunteer shifts are 3-4 hours long.
-Kelsey Creek is looking for summer volunteers

Library Books
Last day to return library materials without incurring a fine is Friday, 6/5/09.
Locker Clean Out!
Locker cleanout day is June 10, at the end of 2nd period. All students with a locker will be required to go to their locker on June 10th, clean it out, and have a staff member verify that it is clean. Students who are absent can come to the office after school on Thursday, June 11 or Friday, June 12, and a staff member will check out their locker. Students with lockers not checked out by June 12 will receive a fine of $5.
· Locker assignments are posted outside the office. There will be no allowances made for “I didn’t know I had a locker.”
· Locker cleanout is an all-school event. Unless you have an excused absence, there will be no waiving of the fine for “My teacher didn’t tell me.”

AP Test Registration
All students taking an AP exam in the spring will need to register for the test(s) online Students must register for their AP Exams online between December 1st and December 5th. http://schools.bsd405.org/nhs/homepage/
You will pay for your tests starting next Monday, to the Accountant, Mrs. Pierson. You do NOT pay online. Financial assistance is available. if you need scholarship forms or have questions, come to the main office.

Tolo Info
Every year, there are kids attending Tolo for the first time….and of course we have lots of new families….so here's some info to help your student with planning their evening. Tolo will be on Saturday, December 13th, 9:00 p.m - 12:00 a.m.:
Tolo info from the Newport Dictionary: A formal dance held at school in early December. Girls generally ask the boys. Often the girls pay for the dance tickets, dinner, and any day activities planned by the couple. The boys pay for photos, transportation, and dessert. If the costs of the school-related aspects of Tolo (tickets, photos) are a financial hardship for your family, please see a school counselor or administrator about financial aid. Dinner, dessert, and day activities are not part of the school event.
Guest passes (for dates who aren't Newport students) must be fully filled out and turned in by December 10th by 3:00 p.m. No late passes will be accepted. Forms are available on the Newport website, under Activities or can be picked up in the main office. Guests must have a ticket and an ID card to enter the dance.
Tickets are on sale: Tuesday 9th, Wednesday 10th, Thursday 11th next week. Come buy your tickets during lunch in the commons. $13 per ticket. Please encourage your daughters to buy early!
Tolo Corsages and Boutonnieres: Show your support for the Invisible Children and purchase a commemorative ribbon corsage or boutonnière for Tolo. Orders will be taken during lunch on Thursday and Friday this week and Monday through Thursday next week. Pick up will be on Friday, December 12th. Save a flower and spend $10 for a good cause. Proceeds will benefit Invisible Children and Class of 2010 grad party.
Chaperones needed! We still need about 15 more. If you or anyone you might know that could help, please contact Mr. James at jamesg@bsd405.org And for all those who already said that they could help, thank you so much! We'll see you at 8:15 that night!

The Newport Orchestras are seeking talented student musicians to feature at their annual "Knights in Vienna" event to be held on January 17. If you play an instrument or sing, and have pieces you could perform that would be suitable to an evening of dancing, music and great food, then clear your schedule for AUDITIONS! Thursday, December 11th, starting after school in room 1225. Pick up audition applications in the Main Office; they're due Monday, Dec. 8.
