PTA Meeting
Here’s a good reason to come to our first meeting of the year: a sneak preview of the new Theater! We will be giving brief tours of the wonderful new facility that is just getting finished up. So come at 7:00, Wednesday, Sept 19, to hear about the remodel from the architect, and then head up to the Library for the regular meeting starting at 7:30. No one else has had this opportunity! Agenda attached.
Review the priorities of the PTA Legislative Issues survey before the meeting at this link Region 2 Washington State PTA Legislative Issues Survey
----------------------------
Open House – Tuesday, September 25th, 6:15 to 9 p.m.- Grade level meetings are 6:15-6:55 p.m. – location to be announced in the daily bulletin or a flyer coming home (I would check the daily bulletin on Tuesday the 25th to be sure)
- Classroom presentations start at 7:00 - You'll follow your student's schedule - you can get it from him or her, or you can pick it up at Newport – I would do the former if at all possible. On page 6 in the last issue of the Knightline is a schedule for the evening. Seek assistance from your student to accurately complete the schedule.
- Open House is not a time to talk about your student’s performance or grades. It is general information about the class curriculum, to find out who the teacher is, and learn what things you should be expecting through the year.
- Bring your checkbook! Every booster item you ever wanted to buy will be available here. Great birthday/holiday shopping for freshman parents. I guarantee there will be something that you need!
- It will be extremely crowded and loud! Arrive as early as possible and plan on running into huge traffic jams on the way out if you leave right when it is over. So carpool with your neighbor & wear your happy face!!!
- Paid PTSA members can pick up the Student Directory at Open House. If you haven't joined yet, please consider joining Tuesday night. A membership form is available on page 4 of the last Knightline. Membership tables will be set up in the Commons. Please pick up your directory at Open House ...it’s a huge (and time consuming) job to distribute them any other way. We LOVE it when people pick them up!!
- Classroom Bucks – Students will be coming into the second period class (homeroom) and asking for money that gets granted to the classroom for curriculum enhancement. All proceeds are tax deductible. Please give generously. . Be sure to ask your teacher if they have any examples of money granted to them. Science has lots of examples. Last year we gave over $30,000 in grants to the school.
Open House Student Volunteers
Any student interested in volunteering at Parent Back-to-School Night from 5:45-8:45pm on Tuesday, September 25th should come to the main office to sign up. Information about specific assignments will then be distributed prior to the event. Students participating in Key Club, Honor Society, Drill, Cheer, or Leadership do not need to come to the main office area to sign up, as advisors of these groups will facilitate this sign up. Three hours of community service will be earned for this activity

Yearbook
Yearbook staff is currently accepting submissions for the "Summer" and "Now and Then" section of the yearbook. If you had an adventurous summer and good photos to prove it please send them to Ms. Driscoll or put them in her mailbox in the main office. Also, if you have old and new photos of you and your Newport friends please submit them for the Now and Then section. Help make this one of the best yearbooks Newport has ever had!

Tiles
Be sure to visit the Tile Wall in the new student courtyard. They look great! Our next deadline is December 1, and your tile will be placed in the first square around the corner from the tiles are already installed. Order forms can be found at the PTA website, http://www.newportptsa.org/. Proceeds go towards capital projects at the school. And you get your name on the school, so when your student comes to their 10 or 25 year reunion, they will be able to point out your contribution!
----------------------------
Daily Bulletin
Visit http://schools.bsd405.org/nhs/homepage/index.html to see the Daily Bulletin, which are basically the announcements for the school. Information about events, clubs, dates, etc are here. If you want to get on the daily email of the bulletin, send your email address to suppesj@bsd405.org. If you have sent in your email address, and haven’t yet received an email, send it in again. I have it on good authority that this is okay and not annoying.

College Conference
Mark you calendars: We are having a Bellevue District College Conference (for Newport, Sammamish and Robinswood students and families) here at Newport HS on Thursday, October 11th for students and parents of all grade levels. More information will follow.
----------------------------
Study Skills Workshop
Newport staff is offering a free three-part study skills workshop for students. These workshops are open to the first thirty students that sign up in the main office. The workshops will be held on October 8th, 15th, and 22nd from 3-4pm. Topics include organization and time management skills, reading and writing strategies, test taking tips, note taking methods, and more!

Student Drop Off (east side of the campus accessed by turning into NHS Campus from Factoria Boulevard)
This is a drop off and pick-up location only. Please do not park and leave your car. Move your cars forward in the line as cars leave the turnaround and exit onto Factoria Boulevard. Please be considerate and courteous!!!
