Viewing Online Grades, Attendance & Tardies
Passwords were handed out today in 2nd period. If your student didn’t get one, they need to ask again on Monday, or go to their 2nd period teacher during tutorial. If they can’t get it from their 2nd period teacher, only then should they come to the office or library to get it. If they do go to the office or library, they will need to present their Newport picture ID.
If parents want the password, please ask your student for it first!. Only as a last resort does a parent come to the office and get the password. You must be a custodial parent and will need to present ID and then you can get the password. This is very time consuming, so please ask your student for the password before asking the office.
To access your student’s grades to NHS website home page http://schools.bsd405.org/nhs/homepage/
and go to Grades and click on Grade Viewer. After reading the disclaimer and responding to the prompts, type in the student ID number and password. Select NHS from the drop-down list. Click Log-In. You now should be able to view the student’s attendance, overall grade and various assignments and scores for each class. Viewing codes may appear in the student’s detailed report. The following is a legend that explains potential viewing codes:
- Blank = no current impact on the grade
- X = Assignment is excused and has no impact on the grade
- Z = Student received a zero in point value. This impacts the student’s grade. This is used most often when a student did not turn in an assignment as opposed to a low grade for poor completion. Some staff do not use this code.

On Thursday night, 4:00-10:00 students decorate four areas in the school - one for each grade - using the themes assigned to their class. The Freshman Class theme is Aliens and Creatures – decorating should be interesting!

Classroom Bucks
Just a quick note to thank you all for your incredible generosity – On Open House night, we collected $24,162 for Classroom Bucks. When we add it money already collected (via the form in the fall packet), our total is well over $25,000!!! Thanks for helping Newport’s teachers provide the very best education to our students!! Next, our teachers will apply for grants & our Grant Committee will review them. Results to be voted on at the January PTSA meeting.
We love matching funds! Don’t forget to apply if your company provides matching.
If you couldn’t be there, you may be wondering how you’ll get your directory – Brandies will send a message to members shortly with the answer.
