End of May Info

Congratulations to Newport Varsity Baseball with two wins on Saturday. Off to Safeco field next week (Friday, 4:00 p.m.) for the state semi-finals! See you there! We normally put PTA information first, but the district’s budget has been gathering lots of attention so I bumped it up a bit higher in today's news.

BSD Budget Q&A
The following email was sent to the parents who have signed up for notifications from the Bellevue School District:
We have received many questions regarding the District’s budget reduction plans. This question and answer format is intended to provide access to the same information for all interested parents, staff and community members.

Background: In response to the state’s current budget deficit, the Washington State Legislature reduced Bellevue School District’s funding by more than $5.5 million for the coming school year. Fundraiser for Dawn Appel
Newport High School is conducting a fundraiser next Wednesday to benefit the wife of our physics teacher Mr. Appel. Dawn Appel has gone through cancer treatment and is currently in need of a bone marrow transplant costing many thousands of dollars. The Newport community has decided to support this family by holding a dinner, entertainment, and auction night on Wednesday, May 27th. This event will feature performances by the Newport Music Program, including the top jazz band, and the dinner will be provided by Newport’s culinary program.

- Two seatings, 4:30 to 6:30 and 7:00 to 8:30
- Tickets are $10 (Children under 5 are free) Checks made out to NFT (National Foundation for Transplants)

URINETOWN: The Musical
If you hate musicals you will love this one. If you love musicals, you've never seen anything like it. Come see this comic romp about death, love, rebellion, greed, regret, hope and public urination. Performances this week Thursday, May 28th, through Saturday, May 30th, at 7:30. Tickets sold during lunches in front of the theatre and starting at 7:00 the nights of the performances. $6.00 for Students $8.00 Adults/Non-ASB

BSF Spring for Schools Luncheon
The Bellevue Schools Foundation is delighted to announce that Dr. Amalia Cudeiro will introduce herself to the Bellevue community at the Spring for Schools benefit luncheon. Dr. Cudeiro was named the next Superintendent at a special School Board meeting on March 22, and comes to Bellevue with a wealth of experience that will keep Bellevue schools strong.

The luncheon takes place Thur, June 4th from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Meydenbauer Center. Give some thought on attending the luncheon as the district needs our support more than ever this year.

Congratulations to the 244 Knight Valor Awardees who contributed over 37,000 hours of community service locally and around the world. Anyone who did not receive their award at the assembly can pick up the certificate and pin in the counseling center.
