Join us for our first PTSA meeting of the year - Wednesday, September 23rd 7:00 p.m. NHS Library
Your PTSA has declared this school year "YOUR YEAR OF CONNECTION"! That means we are planning to offer opportunities throughout the year to meet with other parents and hear from guest speakers about topics relevant to being a high school parent -- and discussing ideas and reactions as a group. In other words, to CONNECT with each other.

To kick off the year, we will address some issues where your student(s) may be inclined to DISconnect from the family -- especially as independence becomes a key issue. As much as we may want to be "cool parents" by letting students do their own thing, balance is also good. WHERE is the appropriate balance for you? for others? So this Wednesday (Sept. 23, 7pm in NHS Library) we want to offer the armor every good Knight needs ... STUDY SKILLS FOR PARENTS. Learn how to BE the way - not IN the way! Arm yourself in advance with your stories of what has worked and hasn't worked so we can network, share, laugh and brainstorm great ideas for working with our students (who STILL need our support and wisdom, even if they think they don't!).

Leading our first discussion is TAMMY SMALL, part of our own NHS PTSA Executive team. She knows this topic well with 28 years as an educator, teacher, high school counselor and national trainer.

The second part of our meeting we'll address business issues, which are in an Agenda on the NHS PTSA website (www.newportptsa.org). WE HOPE YOU START THIS YEAR WITH A CONNECTION!

(In October we'll talk about another kind of connection ... going online: What we should know about social networks, and independent Internet use).
